Full Day Workshop with Hiren Patel – “Urban Landscapes in Oils” 2nd July 2017

We had a great demo from Hiren Patel at our June Monthly Meeting.

We are having a Full Day Workshop with Hiren focusing on ‘Urban Landscapes in Oils’ on the 2nd of July.

Hiren paints urban landscapes which portrays the mood, atmosphere and activity of the scene. He chose to paint with oils for their versatility. His painting methods are based on the 19th century realists and impressionists. He employs the ‘Alla Prima’ technique. Good design, composition and dramatic light are very important to his work.

Hiren will guide students through the process of loose drawing and applying Alla Prima technique to an urban landscape painting on the day.

Born in India and living in Sydney, Hiren Patel studied and worked as an Engineer until he stumble on the Art Gallery of NSW. His interest in art sparked again, which was buried deep since childhood and started studying art and practicing painting.

Hiren has been exhibiting in Sydney for the last 10 years. He primarily paints urban landscapes which portray the mood, atmosphere and activity of the scene. He chooses to paint with oil paints for their versatility as they can be exploited by using different viscosity and drying times. In fact, their possibilities are endless. His paint methods are based on the 19th and 20th century realists and impressionists. Good design, composition and dramatic light are the most important aspects of his work.
